You can play 99% of songs on your guitar--tonight

Do You Want to Know a Secret?

  • Why does no one else teach the EASY way to learn guitar (or ukelele?)

  • Why is no one else teaching method that takes just a few minutes to to learn...and then you can play 99% of rock songs (and zillions of other songs?)

  • Why is no one teaching the method that KEITH RICHARDS uses?

  • Perhaps it's because once you know the "secret," there's not much to talk about?

  • Perhaps because once you know the "secret" (which takes about two minutes), then you can just play the chords, and there's nothing to teach?

Guitar
Some say that African American slide-guitar players in the early 20th century invented this technique (although you don't have to use a slide).

Others say that the Hawaiians invented the technique (and called it "Slack Key Tuning").

Either way, sometimes people refer to this technique as “Open G Tuning.”

Here is the Secret

  1. Retune your strings (from low to high), and make them GGDGBD. (Or, in the “Taro Patch” Slack-Key tradition, DGDGBD.) Keith Richards would go one step farther and remove his deep, low string...thus, he had the 5 higher-pitched strings, tuned GDGBD.
  2. Label each fret. (When you strum the strings without pressing down any fingers, you're playing a G chord. The first fret is Ab, the second fret is B, then Bb, C, Db, D, Eb, E, F, Gb, G.) There’s no need to label higher frets because you’d just be repeating chords.

Chords labeled with tape
On this guitar, I didn’t label the Ab, Bb, Db, and Eb because it seemed like it would clutter up the guitar and make it too complicated. It’s your choice whether you want to label every single fret.

Why Are You Getting This Info for Free?

I made this website because my friends kept asking why I could play guitar and yet they still couldn't (even after years of practice or lessons).

I wanted to show everyone this secret (without having to get my guitar each time, and teach them individually).

Welcome to a lifetime of playing beautiful music!
